If you’re looking for a unique way to package small gifts to give to your loved ones, here’s a tutorial by FromMyCraftRoom that will teach you how to make a cute faux cupcake! The link follows after our “cupcake facts” and additional ideas.

Cupcake Facts:

1. In 1796, the cupcake was mentioned in a recipe notation (“a cake to be baked in small cups”) that was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons.

2. The earliest documentation of the word cupcake was in 1828 in “Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats” in Eliza Leslie’s Receipts cookbook.

Here are some more ideas that you can use with this DIY technique:
1. I Love My Sweets – Instead of using flowers for your faux cupcake, why don’t you try using sweets? Use a small styrofoam ball instead of the floral foam. If the candies are in their plastic wrapping, you can use a tiny bit of glue on each candy, stick them on the styrofoam ball. For chocolates wrapped in foil, use a toothpick to stick them on the foam. You can also use pretty ribbons and tie them on the stem of lollipops.

2. Glam It Up – Paint your styrofoam ball with a metallic shade. You can even use black. If you have pendants or charms from broken jewelry, gather them together and use a strong glue to stick them on the styrofoam ball. If there are some spaces left, fill them in with more stones or crystals. You can even use metallic paper beads!

3. Play with Decoden – You can buy decoden kits online so that you can make your own pretty cupcake “icing”. Try to get Whipple Cream if you want to achieve the fluffy icing effect. Top it off with yummy miniature fruits and sweets that are made from polymer clay.

If you don’t have Whipple cream, you can try making some of your own at home. (click here for the tutorial – https://www.wikihow.com/Make-Whipple-Cream)

4. DIY Paper Flowers – Make mini flower poms and roses out of tissue paper! Try to use different colors so that your faux cupcake will look lovely.
