Cinnamon is a spice that you get from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum – ideally Cinnamomum verum. This spice is used in both sweet and savory recipes. It is also used in perfumery and aromatherapy. This is the kind of spice that makes you feel warm because you tend to associate this with the nostalgic memories of the holiday season.
Our friends at Craftaholics Anonymous created a tutorial that makes use of aromatic cinnamon sticks to decorate our candles. The link follow after our comments and suggestions.
Comments/Suggestions:
1. It might be good to get a glass and put your candle in it before arranging your cinnamon sticks. There’s a possibility that your glue may melt when the candle is lit. You’d want your cinnamon to last for a long time and you’d want to be safe from accidental fires. The tutorial also suggests that you need to use a kind of glue that can withstand higher temperatures. Another possibility might be to use thin wire to wrap the cinnamon, lower down.
2. Decorative Holders – You can use this tutorial to make decorative holders! Take a strip of burlap and stick the ends together to create a cylinder. You may need to use a glass as a guide to measure the size of the burlap cylinder. Glue the cinnamon sticks together and let it dry. Decorate your glasses with these cinnamon holders. Pour your spiced drinks in the glass. The scent of the cinnamon stick will really intensify your senses!
3. Fall Theme Scented Picture Frames – Hot glue your cinnamon sticks on your picture frame. Add dried leaves and star anise. Place this picture frame on your desk. The scent from these spices will remind you of warm Thanksgiving desserts!
4. Cinnamon Mini Baskets – For thanksgiving party favors, glue some cinnamon chips on your baskets. Fill the baskets with some cookies or bars (Try using recipes that contain cinnamon). You can also fill in a small mason jar with cinnamon sugar and print out a recipe. Put it in the basket and you will be in cinnamon heaven!
There are a lot of arts and crafts projects that you can do with cinnamon sticks.
